1980s
1980	Merrell Dow formed after merger with ethical pharmaceutical business of Richardson-Merrell. Dow annual sales exceed $10 billion.
1981	Dow helps propel U.S. space shuttle with D.E.R.* liquid epoxy resins.
1983	The first compact discs are marketed.
1985	Theme line "Dow Lets You Do Great Things" introduced. Household product line doubles in size (Saran Wrap, Handi-Wrap, Scrubbing Bubbles). Dow introduces Seldane, non-sedating antihistamine in U.S. Mid 1980's: Dow introduces DRYTECH super absorbent polymers, a key component in many disposable diapers.
1986	Dow ranks as the world's largest producer of thermoplastics. July 1986: Dow was a pioneer in providing a smoke-free work environment by establishing outside the building smoking areas.
1987	Frank P. Popoff is named president and CEO of Dow. National Safety Council awards Dow with the Distinguished Achievement in Occupational Safety and Health Award.
1989	Marion Merrell Dow and DowElanco are formed.
