DAS Berlin started in 1975 as Agbro, a joint venture between Sentrachem and Makhteshim-Agan, which became wholly owned by Sentrachem in 1989. The Agbro name was changed to Sanachem in 1990. Sanachem became part of Dow AgroSciences when Dow bought Sentrachem in 1997.

Berlin is in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. It is about 50km from the coastal city of East London.
